Electric Underfloor Heating

When installing electric underfloor heating systems, it is vital that you make sure your calculations are correct before ordering, as cables cannot be cut during installation, and we do not refund items which have been cut or damaged.

We recommend that when you take your measurements, you do so in metric (metres) and that you have these double checked before placing your order.

Please see below an example of how to measure your underfloor heating:

Calculating the required mat sizeHow to, Measure Up, measure, wet, underfloor heating, design

First you will need to calculate the total room area (20m²). You will then need to deduct the fixed furniture in the room, as shown below:

  • Island (1.44m²)
  • Unit 1 (1.2m²)
  • Unit 2 (2.4m²)
  • Unit 3 (1.2m²)

This then leaves a total floor area of 13.76m².

You must then allow for a 50-100mm border between the furniture/walls and heating mat, leaving roughly 85-90% coverage. Calculate this area:

13.76m² x 0.9 (90%) = 12.38m².

Then round down to the nearest mat size within the range which would be a 12m² heating mat in this example.

For mat sizes above 12m², a combination of heating mats can be used to fill the available area.

Multiple mats can be used on a single thermostat however the maximum load of the thermostat needs to be taken into consideration as a contactor may be required.
